Is that what you REALLY think of my hair?????
Some people out here have the wrong thoughts about natural hair. It was once thought that if you didn't get a perm that you were lazy and didn't want to do your hair. Only through ignorance does that thought prevail. I bet on most occasions if you touch a natural's hair, it's probably 10 times softer and way healthier than yours. Just stating facts here.
Let's see what else people say....
Women with natural hair are all "Militant, fight the power" types. Nowadays, we aren't. Back in the day we had to distinguish ourselves from others and embrace our heritage; that hasn't changed but now being natural is more about the chemicals and embracing the hair we were born with.
Natural hair doesn't have to be taken care of.....are you kidding me??????? I'm sure we take better care of our hair than anyone else does. This starts with knowing what we are putting in our hair and not just trusting a name on a bottle. Many of us make our own hair products or concoctions ( as I call mine) Lol. Just because I can jump out the shower and go, doesn't mean I didn't do anything while I was in the shower. When you see Popcorn ( yup, that's my hairs name) all "beaded" up..best believe I purposely did that.
Our hair needs grease. Unless you made that grease excluding petroluem, mineral oil and all that other crap: keep it to yourself. We don't need to grease our scalps, slather it on, then smell it or feel it all day. Lol
You can't style Natural hair. HAHAHA....I bet you've admired a natural hairstyle and didn't even know it. Fact is, we can do almost, if not more, than a person with relaxed hair can. We may not be able to wear a smooth wrap but let me see you try to wear a puff. Trust me, we can do a lot.
Natural Hair doesn't grow. I beg to differ. Hair grows, the problem is how often it breaks off. You have to know how to maintain your length. This is something that naturals pride themselves in doing: protecting their ends. It's not done just to maintain length, moreso to maintain healthy hair.
Natural hair is hard to manage. Ummm, if you don't know what to do anything can be hard AT FIRST. No, you can't treat your hair the same way as you would relaxed hair; you have to educate yourself on dealing with natural hair. YOu have to realize you are dealing with delicate stuff here. You have to pamper your hair and listen to it. You have to handle it with care and change your way of thinking.
So there's a few.....*please list more if you know of some*
As with anything in life, if you're uneducated about something your ignorance can show. It's up to someone to inform you differently. <3
Well said! I digs. :~)
