Congrats on your decision to go Natural; this will be a great journey for you. I actually didn't transition ( I bc'ed before I even knew what it was. Lol) but I read A LOT and I have a cousin that wishes to transition to natural hair and I want to help. <3
1. You can do this! It's about you and no one else. Ignore the stares, remarks & looks. They'll be real jealous in a little while.
2. Moisturize! YOu hair needs it!
3. Condition! Condition! Start co washing (washing with conditioner) and doing deep conditioner treatments; your hair definitely needs protein right now, it needs strength
4. Big Chop when you're ready (or tired of two textures) Go ahead and don't be afraid to cut that relaxed hair off.
5. Use transition styles i.e: braids, twist, bantu knots, bantu knot out, twist outs, flat twist, twist out, roller sets, flexirods
6. Decide how to much you are going to cut off( every inch for an inch, every two inches of new growth for one of relaxed or something like) The point is: your relaxed hair has to come off and we prefer you cut it off than it fall off.
7. Only comb hair when it's wet and with a wide tooth comb. Preferably with lots of conditioner. ( this just reminded me I need to update something..Lol)
8. Accept that you will see a little more hair in your tub/sink. The place where your relaxed hair meets natural hair is very fragile and it may break off. Knowing that beforehand will prepare you for it should it happen.
9. Have patience.....This will be a slow and sometimes frustrating process. Just know that many women have done this before you and look at their beautiful results.
10. Don't stress about length. Most healthy natural hair shrinks. Embrace it.
and number 11. This is about you!!!!!!!! EMBRACE YOUR HAIR; It's beautiful.
Great tips! My oldest daughter is currently in transition...and my youngest daughter is 100%natural (and I plan to keep it that way..lol)I have 3 daughters in all ...one more to go( in the way of going natural...we will see..lol)
