I've seen several questions about doing Acv rinses, particularly why & how. As with everything, it's about your own hair and routine, We all are just here to help.
Acv rinses removes buildup and restores ph balance to our hair. By doing so, it makes the hair cuticles lie down flatly and close; the tempurature of water also helps as hot water opens cuticles and cold water closes them. Closing the cuticle helps to:
Make hair shiny :Light reflects off of smooth surfaces, therefore making hair look shiny.
Retain moisture: whatever you put in as moisturizer/conditioner/protein to help your hair, closing the cuticle "traps" it in.
Detangle: smoother hair should be easier to detangle because there's a lot less friction
Now here's so recipes but IT'S ABOUT WHAT WORKS FOR YOU!
1 cup water/ 1/4 acv slowly pour over head scrubbing scalp and rinse with cool water
1 capful to a cup of water pour over hair, leave in for 10 minutes, rinse
I could go on & on but you have to experiment and find what works for you. Some people use 50/50 ratios and leave on for 30 seconds or an hour. Don't be afraid to experiment.
Why use apple cider vinegar instead of regular distilled vinegar? Well, it comes down to ph....regular vinegar is 100% acidic and will dry out hair because of the way it's processed and the alcohols in it. Acv has a ph closer to our own and makes it better to use.
When to use it is all up to you. I've seen people say use it as a final rinse because it closes the cuticles. I've seen others say they condition afterwards because with no buildup it allows better penetration. It's up to YOU & YOUR HAIR.
Everything is trial & error here and what works for one may NOT work for others. It's your hair...Love it regardless! <3
Hello! I just happened to see your blog and I really like it. I also love ACV rinses, but I just need to figure out how often to do it, and when to do it during my actual wash routine... What works for you?
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Hon. I appreciate all the love I'm shown.
ReplyDeleteFor me, I do "major" stuff all together. I prepoo, shampoo, deep condition and do my final rinse with acv. While the conditioner is in I spray it in, massage and count to 30 (you'll have to figure what works for you as far as timing) and I turn my shower water really cool and rinse. My hair is usually VERY shiny and tightly curled.
I do it weekly because I have hard water :(
Thank You for the info-I am still learning what will work for my new locs and always willing to listen to advice. Thank You!!
